Unmarked Vintage Flugelhorn Mouthpiece, Great Condition
Large Morse Taper (a.k.a. Yamaha Taper)
VERY Wide and VERY Deep Funnel Cup
This is a c.1900 vintage mouthpiece for flugelhorns requiring the large Morse taper.
The mouthpiece is in good, playable condition and aesthetically presentable. The silver plate is a little thin on the high spots of the rim, but that actually gives it an interesting 2-tone effect. The tip of the shank is round and true. There are a few nicks and pits on the outside, but no major damage. The rim is smooth and the cup and bore are smooth and clean.

Diameter 1/2 way up shank (for fit): .385
** My flugelhorn takes a French (straight) shank, but this does fit in it. The taper, measured by caliper, conforms to specs for Large Morse. The cup width is bigger than any modern trumpet/flugel mouthpiece I can find, and it's deep like a French horn mouthpiece. The cup is about 2/3 of a mm larger than the largest Curry, a 1H, and full 1 mm larger than the largest Wick, a #2. It's deeper than the deepest Curry (the FLW), and just short of the depth of a Flip Oakes (which is 1"). As such, you can expect this to be about the mellowest mouthpiece you can find!
