    Description

Please be sure to review all my other auctions after you have looked at this one!  I will be listing a broad and diverse range of vintage communications and technology items, related books, periodicals and ephemera...  Something for everyone!
Here is a further example of a hard to find loose coupler!  This is an excellent J.F. Arnold Improved Loose Coupler.  Production on these devices began in 1914.   I have owned this particular one for many years and it remains exactly as I found it.
This device has a base that measures about 18" x 6" x 1" and stands about 6" high at its tallest point.  The wooden support structure is made from hand rubbed mahogany and the hardware is nickel plated.  Three sides of the primary compartment are made of hard rubber.
The unit is in wonderful condition given that it is about 106 years old!!  It shows some signs of its age, with a few blemishes and dings.  Finish is original.   The secondary is wound with green silk covered wire and is original and tight.  The secondary has a turned wooden end which supports a secondary variation switch with eleven taps.
The very first versions of these couplers had the binding post connections along the top of the hard rubber front panel but were quickly relocated to the left hand side of the panel to avoid "wire clutter" while varying the primary tap switches!  The unit tunes up to about 3000 meters.
This rare item has aged correctly, with the normal surface changes you would expect.  The patina quite natural and inviting. Reviewing the photos I notice that a screw is missing from the course primary sweep...easily fixed.  The white color on front knobs is dried wax from a previous overly zealous wax job and wipes right off...
This unit is ready for your display as it sits!
I have tried to take good photographs, and they represent the condition accurately! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask...
If you are a collector of early wireless, loose couplers or J.F. Arnold gear this item belongs with you! There are very few chances to add such a scarce piece to your shelves anymore!
Properly packaged to arrive safely at your door, this parcel will weigh about 10 pounds.
I will pack all items properly and with great care.  I have been shipping these kind of vintage items worldwide since the late 1980's.  Buyers are responsible for shipping, insurance and material costs, and any applicable duties.  I usually can ship within one business day after receipt of confirmed payment.
